Trinity bomb test in 1945…horrific consequences July 23, 2025

I attended events in New Mexico commemorating the July 16 anniversary of the Trinity bomb explosion in 1945, 80 years ago. The Trinity test paved the way for the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A new plaque “honors and acknowledges” the Trinity downwinders, whose exposure to radiation fallout led to cancers and chronic illnesses. The radiation contaminated “surrounding water, crops, livestock, and land,” says the plaque. Many downwinders shared their families’ stories with us.
