Take action: LNG is NOT in the public interest! February 12, 2025
With questions regarding the utility, economic impacts, and associated adverse health outcomes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the Department of Energy (DOE) conducted a study on whether LNG is in the public interest. The Energy, Economic, and Environmental Assessment Of U.S. LNG Exports was published at the end of 2024. While health was not the main focus of this study, DOE is clear that the proliferation of LNG exports is not in our public interest when considering the climate, economy, health and safety of nearby communities, and environmental justice.
Now, DOE is requesting comments from the public on this study and the future of LNG. This comment period is only open until February 18, 2025, so please submit your comment as soon as possible.
In addition to our suggested talking points that are linked to the submission form, we have developed a toolkit with additional sources, suggested social media posts, and more. Please use this resource to your advantage and share widely with allies in the environment and health community.
While this comment period has spanned two administrations and the Trump administration has been friendly to LNG so far, your comments will still be crucial. This new administration has indicated they will attack DOE’s well-researched report and put their efforts behind the LNG industry. Now is the time to speak up for health and the communities already burdened by this fossil fuel buildout.
