Strong hydrogen rules – even for tax credits! February 22, 2024

It doesn’t get a whole lot wonkier than this, but here goes: Can I ask you to send a message to the IRS about tax credits for hydrogen production?

Here’s the story. There is a tax credit for the industrial production of hydrogen, known as the “45V” tax credit. We need to speak out now to ensure that that this tax credit is made available only for clean hydrogen, produced using electricity to break down water.

Otherwise, this credit devolves into a massive giveaway to dirty energy production, made from fracked gas, other fossil fuels, methane from factory farms or landfills, or nuclear power.

Before the 45V tax credit is finalized, please join us in writing to the IRS, insisting that the rule be made fully health- and climate-protective.

45V will provide tens of billions of dollars in tax subsidies to energy providers. We don’t want them to profit by producing “greenwashed” dirty energy. Send your comment today!
