PSR takes Washington, DC! February 23, 2024

Earlier this month we joined our friends with the Climate Action Campaign, Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health, and American Lung Association in Washington, DC to emphasize the importance of protecting our health and climate. Over 100 health professionals across the country came together to educate and connect with folks on the Hill. PSR staff, board, and health professional members met with 26 Congressional Offices and our Executive Director, Brian Campbell, met with the White House Climate Team and Council on Environmental Quality. Thank you to our Climate Ambassadors and attendees Alan Lockwood, MD; Anne Lockwood, PhD; Susan Racine, MD and Doug Hendren, MD!

The Maryland delegation included two E.R. doctors, a professor of ethics, a Montgomery County super-activist, and PSR board member Katie Huffling (second from left) and Environment & Health Director Barb Gottlieb (second from right). We had the pleasure and privilege of meeting with the offices of two climate champs, Sen. Chris Van Hollen and Rep. Jamie Raskin, as well as a number of other offices.
The delegation from California included almost 20 health professionals from varied backgrounds and specialties, pictured here with the staff from Senator Laphonza Butler’s office.
Two of our members, Anne and Alan Lockwood, met with Senator Sherrod Brown’s office alongside another member of the delegation. Left to right: Anne Lockwood, PhD, child psychologist; Francis Goins, Legislative Correspondent; Alan Lockwood, MD; Laurie Pierce, nurse educator.
Pictured here is the Massachusetts delegation including Susan Racine, MD, Co-Chair of the Board at Greater Boston PSR, after their meeting with Senator Ed Markey’s office.
PSR Executive Director Brian Campbell (far right), and other health leaders met with White House staff on the Climate Team and the Council on Environmental Quality. The group shared the latest research on health impacts of fossil fuel pollution from power plants and vehicles, pushing the administration to adopt strong regulatory rules this spring.
Dozens of health professionals and Climate Action Campaign staff came together outside the Capitol despite the weather to announce their arrival in DC.
We ended Climate and Health Advocacy Week with a press conference to thank the EPA for their work regulating particulate pollution, and to encourage the agency to continue their crucial finalization of other rules. PSR Executive Director Brian Campbell at the microphone.
