PSR condemns U.S. militarism at home and abroad January 8, 2026

In this first week of the new year, we at Physicians for Social Responsibility are outraged at the escalating violence. Bombs and guns do not bring peace and justice, in Latin America or in U.S. cities, and we call for an end to this deadly new wave of U.S. militarism.

For nearly a year now, the Trump administration has empowered ICE to terrorize cities across the country and has labeled any opposition to these actions as domestic terrorism. Yesterday, we saw this turn deadly as a woman was murdered by an ICE agent in Minneapolis and reportedly denied potentially lifesaving aid by health professionals on site that offered their help. The extrajudicial violence from and lack of accountability for ICE across the country makes all of us less safe, especially our friends, family and neighbors of color.

Over the past several months, we have been alarmed by the escalating attacks against Venezuela, culminating in this weekend’s deadly U.S. military intervention. Together with our our partners at International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, we condemn this violation of international law. It sets a dangerous precedent for unilateral military action by a nuclear-armed state against a sovereign nation, and it increases global insecurity and instability. This escalating conflict is yet another reminder that we must transition to clean energy and break America’s addiction to fossil fuels.

Now more than ever, I am grateful for the PSR community, from our grassroots chapter network to our global movement of health advocates. For 65 years, we have worked together for peace, justice, and a healthy planet. In this difficult time, we recommit ourselves to our mission to prevent what we cannot cure, abolishing the threat of nuclear weapons and the deadly impacts of climate change. Now is the time for individuals and civil society groups like us to speak out against U.S. militarism at home and abroad. I hope you’ll join me in urging Congress to reassert its constitutional role over war, peace, and diplomacy, condemning the Trump administration’s dangerous actions.

The Congressional switchboard is (202) 224-3121.

In solidarity,

Brian Campbell, PhD
Executive Director
