PSR condemns strikes against Iran, calls for a return to negotiations February 28, 2026

Today, we awoke to news that the United States and Israel have launched military attacks on Iran. This is a frightening escalation to the conflict PSR has been monitoring for months, including the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities in June.
Physicians for Social Responsibility condemns today’s illegal attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. We join our global partners, including International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, in calling for an immediate ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table to prevent nuclear proliferation and protect the lives of civilians.
This dangerous escalation threatens the lives of civilians and a broader conflict, both of which intensify the risk of nuclear weapons use. Continued attacks on Iran endanger lives and health while worsening diplomatic efforts to achieve peace, nonproliferation, and democracy.
The first Trump Administration withdrew from negotiations in 2018, undermining existing diplomatic work between the two states to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons in Iran. This administration is pursuing deadly and dangerous military responses to proliferation threats, including the attacks on the country’s nuclear facilities and now the killing of its leader.
We join IPPNW in saying “there is no military solution to the problem of nuclear weapons proliferation anywhere in the world.” PSR calls for the return of negotiations in the region to disarm all existing nuclear weapons, and commit to a nuclear weapons free zone in the Middle East. We call on the United States, and all countries, to join the Treaty on the Prohibition for Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) to secure our global health and security in abolishing these dangerous weapons of mass destruction.
This evening, I was grateful to gather with fellow PSR members at the opening of our annual climate and health conference in Washington, DC. In times like these, we need one another’s support, and we need reminders of the strength of our movement. Many of us will be visiting Capitol Hill this week, and you can join us in calling on Congress to reassert its constitutional role over war, peace, and diplomacy, condemning the Trump administration’s dangerous actions. The Congressional switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.
Thank you for being part of this community, and for continuing PSR’s 65 year legacy of speaking up for peace, justice, and a healthy planet.
