PSR at the United Nations April 28, 2026
This week in New York, PSR is at the United Nations for the 11th Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). This meeting takes place every five years and is a key opportunity for states parties to demonstrate their commitment towards nonproliferation and the elimination of nuclear weapons. PSR’s group of delegates will be participating in the Plenary proceedings, side events, and connecting with civil society partners during this first week of the conference from April 27th to May 1st. The conference will continue over the following weeks concluding on May 22nd.
This meeting takes place at a critical moment where nuclear armed states are engaging in armed conflict while a modern arms race unfolds. Spending on these immoral weapons runs rampant and contributes to this escalatory moment. PSR and IPPNW are joining civil society partners at the UN calling on states parties to the NPT to agree to an outcome document that highlights the obligations to reaffirm past commitments, pursue nuclear disarmament under Article 6 of the NPT, recognize complementarity of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and more to support a world without nuclear weapons. Later in the week, IPPNW and PSR will deliver a statement to the meeting highlighting the risks of nuclear weapons today, and the urgency in pursuing nuclear disarmament for the sake of our health and planet. IPPNW’s recommendations to the NPT can be found here, and more information about the conference, side events, and to stream it live can be found here.
