Meeting with the White House on CO2 Pipelines April 26, 2024

We recently engaged with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on a forthcoming rulemaking from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration regarding carbon dioxide (CO2) pipeline safety. PSR has called for a moratorium on all CO2 pipeline development due to the dangers of potential leaks and ruptures. Though we encounter CO2 daily, if the exposure were at a concentration of 8% or more, it would become deadly. With the rise in popularity of Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) as a false solution for carbon emissions, it’s crucial that CO2 pipeline development be regulated and curtailed in the interest of public health and climate change. We met with OMB earlier this month to express our concerns, and PSR chapter leaders and Climate Ambassadors continue to schedule meetings of their own to ensure that the health voice is heard on this crucial issue.
