How much does your community contribute to the nuclear weapons industry?  April 26, 2024

Each April for 35 years, as Americans cope with tax day, PSR-Los Angeles President and PSR/National Board member Dr. Bob Dodge has dived headfirst into federal budget numbers to be able to tell American taxpayers the true cost of the entire “nuclear weapons enterprise” — including many costs overlooked in other analyses. For Fiscal Year 2024 this number is over $94 billion. His “nuclear tax calculator” enables you to assess the burden on your community.

Writing in Common Dreams, Dr. Dodge notes:  “These weapons rob our communities of precious resources that could be redirected to the many needs that our communities cry out for.”

How much does your community pay to support nuclear weapons? Warning: this data may cause your jaw to drop. Visit the nuclear tax calculator here.
