HIROSHIMA DAY: Commemoration & Nonviolent Action

Wednesday, August 6, noon to 2 p.m.

Lockheed Martin, 230 Mall Blvd., King of Prussia, PA

(Mall & Goddard Boulevards, across from the IMAX movie theater)

Vigil, ceremony of remembrance, followed by nonviolent protest at main driveway entrance.

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima killed an estimated 80,000 people, with tens of thousands more dying later of radiation poisoning. Lockheed Martin is the world’s largest war profiteer and nuclear weapons producer. Chief among U.S. war contractors, Lockheed Martin is part of building Trump’s “Golden Dome,” a multi-billion-dollar Star Wars continental system, at the large King of Prussia facility, as well as at other Lockheed Martin sites throughout the country. Hold a poster of the Hiroshima Child.

NAGASAKI DAY: Plea for Peace & Abolition of Nuclear Weapons

In front of Basilica, SS Peter & Paul Cathedral, 230 18th St., Phila., PA

Candlelight vigil, followed by a ceremony of peace, led by women, in memory of victims of the bombing of Nagasaki.

Often called “the forgotten nuclear city,” Nagasaki was the largest Christian population throughout all of Asia. Ground zero for the second atomic bombing was the St. Mary’s Urakame Cathedral. An estimated 40,000 were killed immediately, with tens of thousands dying in later months and years.

Participants are committed to a discipline of “Nonviolence of fist, tongue, and heart,” in the words of Martin Luther King, Jr These events are subject to change.
