
Bearing Witness: Clinical Realities from Gaza

You are warmly invited to join the APHA Peace Caucus for a special Zoom webinar featuring physicians who have worked in Gaza.
Our speakers will share firsthand experiences, clinical insights, and reflections from providing care in a complex humanitarian setting.
The webinar will be moderated by Naseem Parsa and Amy Hagopian of the Peace Caucus, with brief introductory remarks by Yara Asi of the Palestine Health Justice Working Group.

Meet Our Speakers:
Thaer Ahmad
Dr. Ahmad is a board-certified emergency medicine physician, serves as the assistant program director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and global health director for the Emergency Department at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Ahmad is a Board Member and Advocacy Director of the Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA), based in Chicago. His experience in emergency response and humanitarian relief includes time in Palestine (Gaza & the West Bank), Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Greece, and Kenya. Dr. Ahmad recently returned from the West Bank after being refused entry into Gaza on a medical mission.
Yipeng Ge
Dr. Ge is a primary care physician and public health practitioner based on the traditional, unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg. In his clinical practice, he works in family medicine practice and refugee health at a community health centre. He has worked on and studied the structural and colonial determinants of health in both the settler colonial contexts of so-called Canada and occupied Palestine.
Ambereen Sleemi
Dr. Sleemi is a physician, a board certified urogynecologist and obstetric fistula surgeon with an MPH in Maternal Health. She is the Executive Director and co-founder of the non-profit International Medical Response. Ambereen leads IMR urogyn/fistula surgical teaching programs in various global sites including Ukraine, Liberia, Pakistan and the Gambia. Ambereen’s interests lie in mpaedical education, expanding surgical training in areas of need and working for equity in healthcare delivery across the globe. She worked in Gaza this past July for 1 month and this past January for 2 weeks at Nasser Hospital.
