Engage Congress in your district! April 10, 2025

Thank you to the folks across the country who joined us at last weekend’s Hands Off! mobilizations. If you weren’t able to attend or you’re looking for a way to continue our Month of Action, check out the next opportunity to engage your elected officials.
Did you know your Members of Congress are on a two week recess and will be in their home districts beginning next week? This is the perfect time to share your legislative priorities with them before they head back to Washington, DC to work on some bills that are crucial to health.
Through the budget reconciliation process, Congress is slated to gut Medicaid significantly, cutting off healthcare access to over 30 million people. Proposals also indicate that funding to the Pentagon and military industrial complex would increase by $1 trillion. Aside from budget talks, Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) investments in climate and clean energy are also under attack. It’s clear that Congress’ priorities are not aligned with the will of the American people, so they need to hear from you!
Congress will be on recess from Monday, April 14 to Friday, April 25. Let’s make the most of this time! Here are some ideas for how to engage your Members while they are in your district.
- Schedule a meeting with your Representative, Senators, and/or their staff.
- Talk about your priorities and how their decisions impact health.
- Attend or request a town hall
- First, check to see if there is already one scheduled for you to attend and share your thoughts.
- If not, call the Member’s office and request that one be put together over this recess.
- If your members of Congress are unavailable to do either of these things, feel free to drop by their office and speak with a staffer or reach out via phone or email.
Once you complete any of the above activities, please fill out this form so that we can follow up with you.
The most exciting part about these opportunities is you don’t have to do them alone. Ask your family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to join you in taking action. If you are willing to organize a meeting or town hall and would like to invite other PSR members nearby or your local chapter, please email mhornyak@psr.org. We can’t wait to see all that the PSR network will accomplish this month and beyond!
