Physicians for Social Responsibility [Los Angeles], a nonprofit that “began by advocating for an end to the nuclear arms race and nuclear weapons abolition,” estimates Chicago’s annual contributions total more than $800 million in tax funding for nuclear weapons research, testing, and cleanup—and that number may increase over the next five years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
