Coalition wants county to reject carbon injection proposal September 11, 2025

“We sincerely ask you to reject any further application requests from Montezuma LLC and to say ‘no’ to using Solano County as a dumping ground,” Dr. Bonnie Hamilton, a pediatrician in Solano County and a member of SF Bay Area Physicians for Social Responsibility, told the board.

She and other speakers spoke of a 45-mile pipeline project from the refineries and power plants in Contra Costa County, across the Carquinez Strait and Sacramento River, to inject millions of tons of “toxic carbon dioxide” at a site near the Suisun Marsh.

They said that if the pipeline were to rupture, a plume of colorless and orderless toxic gas would follow the wind with the possibility of killing all humans and wildlife in its path. They said it could create dead zones that would last for years.
