Jerry P. Abraham, MD, MPH, CMQ

Dr. Jerry P. Abraham, MD MPH CMQ, is Immediate Past President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association LACMA and Director of Public Health, Integration & Street Medicine at Kedren Community Health Center, a Historically Black Institution HBI, Acute Psychiatric Hospital, and Federally Qualified Health Center FQHC located in South LA.  He is also Professor of Family & Community Medicine and Psychiatry at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science, the nation’s 4th Historically Black Medical School.   Additionally, Dr. Abraham serves as the Physician Member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District AQMD Hearing Board and was also one of the principal authors of the AMA Resolution Declaring Climate Change a Public Health Emergency.  Dr. Abraham also serves as Trustee of the California Medical Association CMA and Chair of the American Medical Association AMA Council on Constitution & Bylaws.

Dr. Abraham is a member of the National Academy of Medicine NAM Climate Grand Challenge Steering Committee, NAM Clinician Well Being CWB Steering Committee, NHMA Representative to Project TENDR (Targeting Environmental Neuro-Development Risks), and serves on the Physicians for Social Responsibility PSR National Board of Directors.  He is a member of the Speaker’s Bureau for The Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health, and works closely with HHS/OASH/OCCHE Office of Climate Change & Health Equity, and the National Association of Community Health Centers NACHC.

Dr. Abraham completed a Climate Health Organizing Fellowship CHOF at the Center for Health Equity, Education, & Advocacy CHEEA  at the Cambridge Health Alliance CHA, a Harvard Medical School HMS Teaching Hospital, and is currently a Medical Justice in Advocacy Fellow MJAF at the American Medical Association AMA & Satcher Health Leadership Institute SHLI at the Morehouse School of Medicine MSM where he is focusing on Climate Health Equity and Racial & Medical Justice and regularly lectures on Climate Change & Health Equity at various institutions and programs including: Columbia University’s Global Consortium for Climate Change and Health Education, American Medical Student Association AMSA Race and Medicine Program, National Medical Fellowships NMF Primary Care Leadership Program, the University of Southern California USC’s Master of Public Health MPH Program, the UCLA Urban Health Pathways, and the Charles Drew University Medicine & Society Course.

In addition to the Climate Health portfolio of work, Dr. Abraham is involved in a number of priority areas including: caring for people experiencing homelessness PEH, serious mental illness SMI, people who inject drugs PWID, people living with HIV PLWH, justice-involved, migrant workers, at-risk elders with dementia & women of reproductive age, among other topics.  Dr. Abraham is also committed to the prevention of nuclear war and completed an exchange program with Hiroshima, Japan on the radiation effects of nuclear disasters.  Dr. Abraham serves as a LGBTQIA+ Commissioner for the County of Los Angeles, LA County DPH DHSP Ending the HIV Epidemic EHE Steering Committee, CDPH HIV Cluster Detection, Molecular Surveillance, & Outbreak Response Advisory Committee, Treasurer of the Little Tokyo / Skid Row Homeowners Association HOA, and serves on the board of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association GLMA, California Black Health Network CBHN, Gay Men’s Chorus GMCLA, The National LGBTQ+ Task Force, Physician Aid Association PAA, Urban Voices Project, It’s Bigger Than Us IBTU, Pull For Progress, among others.
